Ghazni vendors complain about tax hike; “We can no longer afford to pay”

A young vendor in Ghazni province who makes a living by selling “handmade” goods on the roadside has criticized the significant increase in taxes on vendors, saying many vendors can no longer afford to pay it.

He says that the tax on roadside Karachis was 1,600 Afghanis three years ago, it increased to 4,200 Afghanis last year, and now it has reached 6,000 Afghanis.

The vendor stressed that he is not the only one facing this problem, but many vendors cannot afford to pay this amount of tax.

He also wrote with disappointment: “We were told that good days were coming, but today the situation has reached a point where we are forced to abandon our Karachi and take the smuggling route to Iran.”

These statements come at a time when rising living costs and taxes have increased the concerns of many low-income groups and street vendors in various parts of Afghanistan.
