Claim of capture of Yaftal Payin district center in Badakhshan; “Badakhshan National Front” reports Taliban forces’ retreat

Sources and opposition groups have claimed that Yaftal Payin district center in Badakhshan province has come under the control of forces known as “Badakhshan National Front” following clashes this morning. According to this claim, a number of disgruntled Taliban forces and commanders have also collaborated with this movement.
Videos posted on social media, which Kabul Times News cannot independently verify the time and place of recording, show a gathering of a number of people chanting slogans against Haibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader. Opposition sources claim that these images were recorded after a number of Taliban military and administrative vehicles left Yaftal Payin district center.
At the same time, sources close to the anti-Taliban fronts in northeastern Afghanistan have claimed that the Badakhshan National Front, with the cooperation of a number of disgruntled Taliban commanders, has been able to take control of the district center. Unconfirmed local reports also report the transfer of some weapons and military equipment to the mountainous areas of Yaftal Payin.
As of the time of publication of this report, Taliban officials have not officially commented on these claims and the current situation in Yaftal Payin district. Kabul Times News has also been unable to independently verify the claim of capturing the district center and the possible number of casualties in the clashes.
In recent months, several anti-Taliban armed fronts have reported carrying out attacks in different provinces of Afghanistan; however, the casualty figures and details of many of these attacks cannot be confirmed due to limited access to independent sources.
