Iraqi authorities have announced the discovery and seizure of around $175 million in cash and 400 kilograms of gold as part of an investigation into a major corruption case involving Adnan al-Jumaili, Iraq’s Deputy Oil Minister.
The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq said investigators seized 213 billion Iraqi dinars, equivalent to approximately $162.5 million, along with $12 million in cash and 400 kilograms of gold found hidden in various locations across the country.
According to Iraqi authorities, an additional 27 billion dinars, worth more than $20.5 million, was also seized and is reportedly linked to Adnan al-Jumaili and individuals associated with him.
The investigation is part of a broader anti-corruption campaign in Iraq, which has so far led to the detention and questioning of dozens of government officials and members of parliament.
Iraqi authorities have stressed that the investigation is ongoing, and further details regarding the sources of the assets and the individuals involved will be disclosed once the investigation is completed.
