Local sources in Ghazni province reported the death of three young men after drowning in a pond in Malistan district.
The Taliban police command in Ghazni has announced in a press release that the incident occurred on the second day of Eid al-Adha in the village of “Shir Dagh” in Malistan district.
According to the information released, the three young men had gone to a local pond for fun and swimming, but they had an accident while playing in the water and lost their lives.
Local authorities have not yet provided details about the identity, age and place of residence of the victims. It is also not clear whether rescue or relief operations were carried out at the time of the incident.
Drowning of citizens in ponds, dams and non-standard swimming areas, especially in the summer season, is a recurring incident in Afghanistan. Experts have repeatedly warned about the dangers of swimming in places without safety measures and have emphasized the need to increase public awareness and take preventive measures.
Similar incidents in a number of provinces of the country have previously claimed the lives of dozens of people, especially young people and teenagers.
