Unexploded ordnance explosion in Paktika; 7 killed, 4 injured

Local sources in Paktika province say that at least 7 people were killed and 4 others were injured after an unexploded ordnance exploded in the “Dangerligad” area of ​​Barmal district.

According to sources, the incident occurred when a scrap metal dealer was trying to cut an unexploded ordnance to extract its metals. During this action, the ordnance exploded, causing heavy casualties.

Sources added that a number of the victims of the incident are children. The condition of some of the injured is also reported to be serious.

Afghanistan remains one of the most contaminated countries in the world with unexploded ordnance and the explosion of these materials takes the lives of dozens of civilians, especially children, every year.

Local Taliban officials have not yet officially commented on the details of the incident and the exact number of victims.
