14-year-old girl brutally murdered in Kabul; father kills daughter with shovel after hearing her talking to boy on way to school.

Kabul – Local sources in Kabul province say a man in Kalakan district has killed his 14-year-old daughter on charges of “inappropriate behavior.”

According to sources, the incident took place two days ago in Kalakan district. According to available information, the girl’s father became extremely angry after receiving reports from a number of local residents that his daughter had talked to a young boy on her way home from school and threatened to kill her.

Sources added that the girl had had a brief conversation with a boy on the side of the road on her way home after finishing school and then returned home. However, her father did not accept this and beat her to death with a shovel at night while his daughter was sleeping.

Sources also said that after the arrest, the man discovered that his daughter had no relationship with the boy and that the allegations against him were false. According to the sources, initial investigations indicated that the incident was the result of a false report or personal motives of some individuals.

The incident has once again raised concerns about the consequences of rumors, domestic violence and honor killings in Afghanistan.
