Fate of around 70 tribal elders unknown in Ghor; Concerns over possible arrest by Taliban rise

Firozkuh – Kabul Times News

Local sources in Ghor province report the disappearance of around 70 tribal elders and white-haired men from Tiowara district; people who, according to sources, have no information about their status or whereabouts after traveling to the provincial capital to meet with Taliban officials.

According to information received, these tribal elders had traveled from Zarbid village of Tiowara district to Ferozkuh city two days ago at the invitation of Hayatullah Mohajer, the Taliban governor in Ghor. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the tensions and recent events in the region.

Local sources say that since the arrival of the delegation to the provincial capital of Ghor, all communication channels with their families and residents have been cut off and no contact or information about their fate has been released so far.

This situation has created a wave of concern among the families and residents of Tiowara district. A number of local residents claim that these individuals were detained by the Taliban and transferred to an unknown location; a claim that has not yet been confirmed or denied by Taliban officials.

The families of these individuals have demanded immediate clarification of the fate of their relatives and the possibility of their contact with their families. They are calling on the responsible institutions and relevant authorities to clarify the situation of these tribal elders.

This incident occurs at a time when numerous reports have been published in recent years of the arrest, imprisonment, and repression of critics and opponents of the Taliban in different parts of Afghanistan; an issue that has always been a concern for human rights organizations and civil society activists.
