The US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, in a Security Council meeting, supported the extension of UNAMA’s mandate, saying that the agency plays a key role in managing the humanitarian crisis and providing credible reporting on Afghanistan. He also emphasized the importance of UNAMA’s continued work to support the Afghan people.

At the same time, some countries continue to seek normalization of relations with the Taliban regime while ignoring widespread human rights violations, especially against women and girls, in Afghanistan.
