A bride was arrested by the Taliban in Herat province before her wedding night.
Sources in Herat province say that one of the women arrested in the latest wave of arrests by the Taliban in the province was scheduled to have her wedding ceremony on Sunday evening.
The young woman had left her home on Saturday to buy henna ceremony supplies, but was arrested by Taliban forces at the Almas Sharq shopping complex in Herat city.
Sources added that after being detained for about a day and a half, the woman was transferred from Herat prison to the Taliban’s Amr-e-Maruf office on Sunday evening.
According to the sources, the Taliban’s Amr-e-Maruf officials forced her to sign a commitment letter in the presence of her family members, according to which she must observe the group’s approved hijab in the future. She was also warned that if she repeats this, she could be imprisoned for up to six months.
The arrest comes as the Taliban have launched a new wave of arrests of women in Herat city since Saturday. Local sources say that dozens of young women have been arrested in shopping malls, markets and busy roads of the city for wearing a cloak or not wearing a veil.
Almas Shargh Commercial Complex, Leilamiha Road, Nakhod Bariziha, Goldsmiths' Market and some shops in Herat city were among the areas where Taliban forces have arrested women.
Meanwhile, today, Sunday, 17th of Joza, the Taliban have also arrested 9 other young women in the Jibraeel area of Herat city.
