Tragedy in Sarai Shahzad; Mother shot dead after going to buy Eid clothes

Farahnaz, a mother of four, was killed today in an armed attack between unidentified gunmen and the son of Allah Gul Mahahid, a former member of parliament who was also in the T-Alban Ait prison, in Sarai Shahzad, Kabul; a woman who, according to her relatives, had only gone to the exchange office to receive money sent by her husband from abroad to buy Eid clothes for her children on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

The bitter incident occurred while Sarai Shahzad Bazaar, one of the busiest financial centers in Kabul, witnessed armed clashes and shooting. Among the victims of the incident, Farahnaz was also shot and died.

Local sources say that she had left home with the hope of buying clothes and preparing Eid for her children, but her body was returned to her family lifeless; an incident that left four children motherless on the eve of Eid al-Adha.

The incident has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users describing the insecurity and repeated violence in public places in Kabul as worrisome.

No further details have been released about the perpetrators of the attack, and security officials have said that Allah Gul Mujahid's son was also killed in the attack, and have called the clash a personal feud between the Mujahid family, stressing that investigations are ongoing.
