Najib Barwar: The divide between the north and south of Afghanistan is rooted in culture and social thinking

Najib Barwar, a poet and cultural activist in Afghanistan, says that the difference between the north and south of the country is rooted in culture, social thinking, and people's way of life, rather than geography.

In his latest statements, Barwar wrote that the northern provinces of Afghanistan have always been known for their civil atmosphere, coexistence, and hospitality, while parts of the south of the country have been more involved in war, extremism, and violence in recent years.

He added that during the period of insecurity and war in the south, many residents of those areas traveled to the northern provinces to find peace and security and were met with a warm and hospitable welcome by the local people.

The poet and cultural activist emphasized that some divisive behaviors and narratives in recent years have exacerbated ethnic and social divides and expanded the atmosphere of distrust.

Barwar also criticized the increase in hateful and divisive literature on social media and warned that the continuation of this trend could have dangerous consequences for social solidarity and the future of Afghanistan.
