Bloody Clashes Over Destruction of Poppy Fields in Badakhshan; One Dead, Several Injured

Local sources in Badakhshan province report that an attempt by Taliban forces to destroy poppy fields in Argo district has been met with a backlash from local residents, leading to clashes.

According to these sources, the incident took place on Friday, May 18, in the village of Atan-Jallo. Local residents protested after the Taliban began their operation to destroy poppy fields, which led to tensions escalating and turning violent.

According to available information, one person was killed and at least three others were injured in the clash. It has also been reported that after the clash, Taliban forces surrounded the area and arrested one of the protesters.

The sources add that Taliban forces have fired aerial shots and used violence to disperse the people. Taliban officials have not yet commented on the matter.
