While Afghanistan continues to face a deep human rights crisis and widespread suppression of civil liberties, evidence and analysis show that public opinion has been purposefully and systematically diverted from the main axis—namely, investigating and exposing the Taliban’s performance.

According to assessments by independent observers, propaganda structures and networks aligned with the Taliban have succeeded in turning the social media space into a field of deviant disputes and marginal discussions by using sophisticated media tactics. This process has effectively caused a significant portion of human rights violations, systematic repression, and other actionable cases to be downplayed or ignored in the shadow of fabricated and directed controversies.

Reports show that the Taliban regime is not only exploiting this situation, but also has been deliberately managing information flows to gradually weaken and silence the voices of critics. In such an environment, public opinion is diverted from fundamental demands such as justice, accountability, and transparency to less important and provocative issues.

At the same time, some social media users—both Taliban opponents and political activists—have engaged in a worrying trend of undocumented heroism, highlighting suspicious figures, and reproducing emotional discourses; a trend that has effectively weakened the discourse based on facts and evidence.

On the other hand, the intensification of ethnic differences, the issuance of mutual accusations, excommunication, and widespread labeling have made the public space even more divided and distrustful. Experts warn that these gaps are not just accidental, but could be part of a deliberate strategy to break down social cohesion and distort public opinion.

Analysts emphasize that whenever the wave of criticism against the Taliban intensifies, deviant issues—including fueling historical and border disputes, highlighting showy meetings abroad, or creating controversial figures—are simultaneously on the agenda. This pattern indicates a calculated cycle to manage public opinion and prevent the formation of a discourse of accountability.

The consequence of this situation is the formation of a wave of emotional, fleeting and analytically shallow reactions that not only do not help improve the situation of the Afghan people, but also indirectly serve to perpetuate the existing repressive structure.

In such circumstances, experts emphasize the need to return to rationality, strengthen media literacy, focus on documented facts, and avoid falling into the trap of biased narratives. They believe that only through collective awareness, national cohesion, and overcoming ethnic and political prejudices can an effective discourse be formed to defend the rights of the Afghan people.
