The Turkish Interior Ministry announced that around 9,000 Afghan citizens have been detained on charges of not having legal documents since the beginning of this year. Based on the report, more than 370,000 Afghan migrants have been detained in Turkey since 2021, bringing the total number of undocumented migrants detained to more than 1.1 million. At the same time, a wave of forced returns from Iran and Pakistan continues. Some activists consider the Taliban administration’s inability to create job opportunities and improve the economic situation to be the main factors for the continuation of risky migration. Migrants also complain about a lack of work, high housing rents and delayed payment of wages.
