Sources: Another $80 million package for the Taliban arrives in Kabul
Reliable sources told Kabul Times News that a new package of US financial aid arrived in Kabul on Sunday.
Based on information from sources, the package contained about $80 million in cash, which was transferred to Kabul’s military airport via a special flight. According to sources, this process has continued regularly in recent weeks and similar financial packages have been seen arriving in Kabul almost every Sunday.
The sources added that the transfer of this money is taking place at a time when Afghanistan is facing a severe economic crisis, widespread poverty and rising unemployment; however, clear details about how this aid is being used and the institutions receiving it have not been published yet.
In recent years, the arrival of dollar cash packages in Afghanistan has always been accompanied by widespread domestic and international reactions. Critics say the lack of transparency in the distribution process of this aid has raised concerns about the possibility of political and security use of these financial resources.
Meanwhile, the Taliban have repeatedly emphasized that this aid is related to humanitarian projects and support for the Afghan people; but some political movements and monitoring institutions believe that parts of this aid are indirectly provided to the ruling structure.
Economic experts warn that continuing cash aid without establishing a transparent monitoring mechanism will not only not solve Afghanistan's economic crisis, but could also pave the way for corruption and greater economic dependence.
This is while numerous reports have been published in recent months about the continued transfer of cash from some international institutions to Kabul, and there are still serious questions about the fate of this aid.
