China restricts chemical exports to Afghanistan and five other countries.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has announced that new restrictions have been imposed on the export of certain chemicals to six countries, including Afghanistan, to prevent their misuse in drug production.
According to the ministry, the decision was finalized in cooperation with several Chinese government agencies, including security agencies, customs and drug regulatory agencies, and aims to strengthen supervision over the transfer of sensitive chemicals.
The newly published list includes 41 types of chemicals for Afghanistan, Laos and Myanmar. These include ammonium chloride, barium sulfate and palladium chloride.
At the same time, China has also put a separate list of 16 chemicals under export supervision for the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Chinese officials have said that from now on, companies and exporters must obtain special permits to transfer these materials to the aforementioned countries. According to China's Ministry of Commerce, these restrictions do not currently apply to other countries.
