Special Report | The Role of Mosque Pulpits in Society; Between Religious Mission and Political Challenges

In the history of Islam, mosque pulpits have always been recognized as one of the most important tools for intellectual and social guidance of society. Since the call of the first Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, this place has played a key role in promoting justice, awareness, and fighting oppression. Preachers and orators of mosques have been obliged to either express the truth or defend it and not remain silent in the face of injustice.

Throughout history, this sacred place has sometimes been preserved by worthy and reforming individuals, and sometimes, due to personal interests, it has deviated from its original path. In the original Islamic view, the mosque pulpit is a stronghold for defending the right, a voice for the oppressed, and a tool for reforming the individual and society.

Religion and Politics; Differences of views

In Islamic societies, there have always been two views on the relationship between religion and politics:
The first considers religion separate from politics; the second considers religion an inseparable part of the political system. Religious and political science experts believe that extremes in both views can lead to deviation.

Islam emphasizes principles such as justice, equality, responsibility, and the fight against oppression. If a political system observes these values, it can be in line with the spirit of Islam.

The principle of specialization in management from the perspective of Islam

In the life of the Prophet of Islam, assigning responsibilities based on the expertise and ability of individuals has been a fundamental principle. For example, Khalid bin Walid and Omar bin Khattab played a role in military and management affairs, while Abu Hurayrah was more active in the field of science and narration of hadith. This division of duties indicates the importance of specialization in the administration of society.

Contemporary challenges in Afghanistan

In the current conditions of Afghanistan, critics believe that the power structure in the Taliban government is far from the principle of specialization. Assigning specialized responsibilities to individuals lacking the necessary knowledge in various fields, including health, economics, and education, is one of the main areas of criticism.

Some analysts also believe that the performance of this government has caused the image of Islam at the global level to be associated with extreme and incorrect perceptions. While Islam emphasizes concepts such as mercy, justice, human dignity, science, and coexistence.

Conclusion

Islam is a religion whose message is based on peace, justice, and humanism. This religion cannot be understood solely through the actions of groups or governments that operate in its name. Rather, it must refer to its original sources and the life of the Prophet of Islam.

The role of mosque pulpits, if played correctly, can remain one of the most effective tools for raising awareness, social reform, and defending justice in society.
