A severe hailstorm in Khost Province has caused significant financial losses for farmers, as large hailstones—reportedly the size of half a human hand—damaged agricultural fields and irrigation systems.
Farmers say the storm completely destroyed their solar-powered irrigation equipment, resulting in substantial economic damage.
The hailstorm, which occurred on Wednesday, 30 Sawr 1405 (May 20, 2026), struck ripe wheat fields across parts of Khost Province, causing considerable damage to local crops.
According to residents, portions of the wheat harvest were affected, raising serious concerns among farmers about their livelihoods.
Farmers further reported that the hailstones were unusually large and unprecedented in size. They described them as nearly half the size of an adult human hand, stating that the storm destroyed nearly all solar irrigation facilities and caused millions in losses for the agricultural community.
