Batur Dostum’s sharp warning to the Taliban; “Northern Afghanistan is under surveillance”
In his latest statements, Batur Dostum, the head of the National Movement Party of Afghanistan, warned against the Taliban’s movements and policies in northern Afghanistan, saying that all of the group’s actions in the northern regions are “under close surveillance.”
He stressed that continuing this trend could destroy the Taliban’s “last opportunities” to maintain influence and interaction in the north of the country.
Referring to the historical background and ethnic composition of northern Afghanistan, Batur Dostum said: “The north has been the home of Turkic tribes for thousands of years, and the people of these regions are following current developments with sensitivity.”
The head of the National Movement Party also added that the party continuously monitors the political, security, and social situation in the north and will not remain indifferent to what he called “targeted changes and controversial policies.”
These statements come at a time when political and ethnic tensions in Afghanistan have increased in recent weeks, and controversial debates about “Turkestanism” and “Khorasanism” have once again heated up in the political and media space.
Meanwhile, figures such as Naqibullah Fayeq, Bashir Ahmad Tayyin, and Enayatullah Farahmand have also entered these discussions in recent days and expressed their opinions about the future of Afghanistan’s political structure and identity.
