Ali Khamenei’s funeral held; Mojtaba Khamenei’s absence in focus

Kabul Times News – The funeral prayer and burial ceremony of Ali Khamenei, the former leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was held on Sunday morning. The funeral prayer was led by Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani at 8:00 AM; the ceremony is being held more than four months after his death.

One of the most important points of the ceremony was the absence of Mojtaba Khamenei; a person who, according to reports, was introduced as the new leader of the Islamic Republic less than ten days after the death of his father. However, he was not present at the funeral prayer and burial ceremony and did not lead the funeral prayer for his father.

According to reports, no images, audio files or video messages from Mojtaba Khamenei have been released in more than four months, sparking speculation about his status and role in the new leadership structure of the Islamic Republic.

In contrast, Ali Khamenei's three other children, Mustafa, Massoud and Meysam Khamenei, who had not been seen in public since the start of the war on 26 February last year, attended the funeral and were seen next to their father's coffin.

The absence of Mojtaba Khamenei from one of the most important official ceremonies of the Islamic Republic, along with the presence of other family members, has attracted the attention of observers and the media, raising questions about the reason for his absence and the status of Iran's new leadership.
