Iran-US talks in Switzerland postponed; White House reports logistical problems
Kabul Times News
The Swiss Foreign Ministry officially announced on Friday, June 19, that the planned talks between representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, which were supposed to be held in Switzerland, have been postponed.
The announcement came after the White House announced in the early hours of Friday morning that the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Switzerland, where he was supposed to participate in the talks planned between representatives of Washington and Tehran, had been postponed.
The White House has cited “logistical problems and considerations” as the reason for the change in schedule. However, some media reports indicate that the decision may be related to recent developments in the region, in particular the security situation and the fragile ceasefire in Lebanon.
Al-Mayadeen had previously reported that the visit of the Islamic Republic of Iran delegation was postponed due to “the situation in Lebanon.” However, Iranian officials have not yet officially commented on the reason for the postponement of the talks or the change in the delegation’s travel plan.
Political analysts believe that regional security developments and increased tensions in the Middle East could affect the process of diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington. However, a new date for these talks has not yet been announced.
According to diplomatic sources, the parties involved are still consulting on determining a new time and framework for continuing the talks.
