Statements attributed to the US President on Iran, oil and a possible deal
In a series of controversial statements, Trump has spoken on a variety of topics, including Iran, oil prices, naval operations and a possible deal with Tehran.
In part of his remarks, the US President said, referring to the killing of Qassem Soleimani,
He was a person who was "taken out" and asked if the situation would have been different if he had been alive. He also described Soleimani as a "genius".
In another part of his remarks, he claimed that the US Navy has been disabling ships in unspecified operations over a period of time, a matter that he said has played a role in reducing tensions and preventing a sharp increase in oil prices.
He said:
Every night, between 15 and 25 ships were shut down, and that these actions were carried out in secret, "nobody knew about it." According to him, these actions prevented oil prices from reaching 300 dollars per barrel.
In another part of the speech attributed to him about the agreement with Iran, it is stated:
He described the agreement as "not final" and merely a "memorandum of understanding" and warned:
If he did not like it, he did not rule out the possibility of returning to the military option and said that in the event of "inappropriate behavior," the option of bombing would be on the table again.
He also accused opponents of his policies, saying that some people were "idiots" who wanted a global recession. According to him, if the agreement failed, the situation could lead to the closure of vital energy routes.
Overall, these statements include a combination of military, economic, and political claims about Iran, the oil market, and US foreign policy, and have received widespread media coverage.
