Germany to accept six new Taliban diplomats
Kabul Times News
According to published reports, the German government is considering accepting six new diplomats introduced by the Taliban caretaker government to work in Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in the country.
Informed sources say that this move has been reviewed within the framework of managing consular affairs and addressing the needs of Afghan citizens living in Germany. However, German officials have not yet released further details about the level of the mission, the start date of activity, and the official status of these diplomats.
This development comes at a time when Germany, like many Western countries, has not recognized the Taliban government; but in recent years, it has maintained limited communication channels with Taliban officials to address some humanitarian, immigration, and consular issues.
International relations experts believe that accepting diplomats does not necessarily mean official recognition of a government, but can be done in order to provide consular services and meet the needs of citizens living abroad.
Thousands of Afghan citizens currently live in Germany, and the issue of providing consular services, renewing documents, and handling refugee affairs is considered one of the major challenges in relations between the two sides.
As of the time of publication, the German Foreign Ministry and Taliban officials have not officially released further details on this issue.
