Civil activist claims suicide of young woman in Herat after being arrested by Taliban
Kabul – Afghan civil activist Soraya Karimi has claimed that a young woman from Herat, who she said was sexually abused and raped by the Taliban after being arrested in prison, committed suicide and died.
Ms. Karimi made these statements in an interview with the media and said that the woman had faced severe mental and psychological problems after being released from detention. According to her, the pressures caused by this incident ultimately led to the woman’s suicide.
So far, Taliban officials have not officially commented on these claims, and no independent and verified report has been published by impartial institutions about the details of this case. However, these claims have been raised at the same time as concerns about the situation of women’s rights and reports of women’s detention in some provinces of Afghanistan.
Human rights activists have called for independent and transparent investigations into these claims. They emphasize that any reports of sexual violence, mistreatment of detainees, and suspicious deaths should be investigated by competent and impartial institutions.
Kabul Times News states that due to the sensitivity of the issue and the lack of independent verification, this report is based on statements from sources and civil society activists and will be updated if official information or the results of independent investigations are published.
