Local sources in Kapisa province say that Heshmatullah, a former Afghan National Army officer and commander of the 4th Battalion of the Silab Army Corps, died after several days of detention and his body was found in the central hospital of the province.

According to the sources, Heshmatullah was arrested by Taliban forces four days ago from the Abidkhel area of Jabal al-Saraj district. Local sources claim that he was transferred to an unknown location after being arrested and his family has not been informed of his condition during this time.

The sources added that the body of the former soldier was found last evening in the central hospital of Kapisa province. According to them, signs of injuries and torture were observed on his body; although the exact details of his cause of death have not yet been officially confirmed.

This incident comes at a time when similar cases of detention, disappearance and death of some former Afghan soldiers have been raised by families and human rights organizations in recent years. The Taliban have always emphasized that a general amnesty has been issued and that no retaliatory action will be taken against the former soldiers.

However, human rights organizations have repeatedly called for independent and transparent investigations into reports of detention and death of former soldiers.

However, the Taliban have not yet commented on this incident.
