The Taliban Ministry of Encouraging Righteousness and Forbidding Evil has announced in an audio tape that celebrating Nowruz is not permissible in Islam. Saif al-Islam Khaybar, the ministry’s spokesman, claimed in a press release issued by the ministry that Muslims are forbidden from celebrating this day in hadiths. He emphasized that celebrating Nowruz is considered a “great sin.”
