Pakistan Foreign Ministry: Recent clashes along the border with the Taliban are a serious ceasefire violation and Islamabad is following the situation with “serious concern.”

Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Andarabi announced in a press conference on Thursday that Taliban forces had carried out “unprovoked” firing and shelling in the border areas of South Waziristan, near Bannu district and Angor Ada area, on April 26 and 29.

According to him, several civilians were injured and a number of houses were damaged as a result of these clashes. He added that women and children aged 3, 8 and 10 were among the injured.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed that Islamabad is taking necessary measures to ensure security in the border areas and is closely monitoring the developments. He also said that the summoning of the Pakistani charge d’affaires in Kabul was true, but called it part of “propaganda.”

He reiterated that Pakistan expects that Afghan soil will not be used for armed activities against the country.

Border clashes and tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan have continued for more than two months, in some cases leading to the closure of border crossings and disruption of traffic and trade. Despite talks between the two sides in China, these efforts have not led to a reduction in tensions so far.

Earlier, there were reports of rocket attacks attributed to Pakistani forces on parts of Kunar province. Pakistan described the targets of these attacks as “centers of terrorist groups” and denied harming civilians.

However, the United Nations said at least seven people were killed and 79 wounded in the attacks, including women and children. A student dormitory and a drug rehabilitation center were also damaged.

Taliban officials have not yet issued an official response to the incidents.
