Local Taliban officials in Helmand province have announced that four women died in the Helmand River and two others were rescued.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the “Aynak” area of Nawa district. According to the information provided, first an elderly woman drowned in the river and then several other women entered the water to save her; but as a result of this action, four of them lost their lives.

This incident occurred while the water level of rivers in Afghanistan, including the Helmand River, has increased and the water flow has become more intense following recent rainfall. Reports of similar incidents in provinces such as Farah had also been published earlier.

Meanwhile, experts in the field of meteorology and natural disaster management say that the lack of effective awareness raising among citizens by responsible institutions is one of the factors contributing to the increase in human casualties in such events.
