Three Afghan cricketers banned for participating in foreign league without permission
Kabul Times News | Report
An Indian media outlet reported that the Afghanistan Cricket Board has banned three players from all domestic and international competitions for four months for participating in a Twenty20 league in India without obtaining official permission.
According to the report, the players include Samiullah Shinwari, Aftab Alam and Mohammad Shahzad. They are said to have participated in the “Legends League Cricket” competition in India, while they had not received a no-objection certificate from the Afghanistan Cricket Board.
Sources say that the board regulates the participation of players in foreign leagues and failure to comply with this process can be punishable. It has also been reported that Samiullah Shinwari’s team has won the championship in the competition.
Meanwhile, former national team captain Asghar Afghan also played in the league but was not included in the ban due to his retirement from international cricket.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has not yet released further official details about the decision, but reports suggest there are concerns about the league’s credibility, including that the competition is not recognised by international bodies and that there are potential risks of corruption.
The report states that at least one of the players had applied for a permit before the tournament began but had not received a timely response.
