Amid the resumption of tensions between nomads and local residents in Punjab district of Bamyan province, the Taliban government’s Ministry of Interior has announced the decision of a high-level delegation to investigate and address the conflict.

The ministry announced that the delegation consists of the Taliban governor in Bamyan, the security command, the intelligence department and the tribal and ethnic affairs department. According to the Taliban, the mission of this delegation is to investigate the disputed areas and manage future tensions.

The Taliban announced that the disputed areas will be reviewed definitively in the meeting with the conflicting parties and the final decision will be based on “evidence, credible documents and Islamic Sharia law.”

The two sides have also been warned that until a final decision is issued, neither side is allowed to graze their livestock in the disputed areas.

Further tensions between the Kuchis and the local communities in Punjab district began in the month of Juz’ this year. Earlier, there were reports of clashes and injuries to a number of people. However, new reports of continued tensions and increasing concerns about the possibility of a recurrence of the incidents at that time claimed that the differences had ended.

Disputes over the use of pastures and rangelands between the Kuchis and the local communities in parts of Afghanistan, including Bamyan and Takhar provinces, have repeatedly escalated into local tensions and sporadic clashes in recent years.
