Youth drowns in Farkhar River, Takhar; Fatalities increase with the onset of the hot season
Kabul Times News – A youth died after drowning in the Farkhar district of Takhar province. Local sources say that the youth’s body was pulled out of the water by an elderly man after several hours of searching.
According to sources, the incident took place on Friday, June 19, in the Farkhar River. The identity of the victim has not been officially announced yet, but local sources have confirmed that he lost his life after drowning.
Witnesses say that the youth’s body was pulled out of the water by an elderly man and handed over to his family.
With the arrival of the hot season, thousands of Afghan citizens visit rivers, lakes and dams for recreation and swimming. However, the lack of designated and safe swimming areas, the lack of warning signs, and the lack of lifeguard facilities and personnel claim the lives of dozens, sometimes hundreds, of people in different parts of the country every year.
This incident comes at a time when several drownings have been reported in different provinces of Afghanistan over the past week. According to reports, two people in Ghazni Province, one in Parwan Province, and three in Panjshir Province died from drowning.
Citizens and social activists have repeatedly called on officials to prevent such incidents from recurring by creating safe swimming areas, deploying lifeguards, and increasing public awareness.
