Torture of a doctor in Herat by Taliban forces; A citizen’s bitter story.
Herat — A medical doctor in Herat province claims that he was beaten and insulted by the traffic police of the province of Alban; an incident that has sparked widespread reactions on social media.
According to the doctor, he had gone to the city yesterday with his family and children to do Eid shopping. He said that he had stopped his car on the side of the road for a few minutes because the road was blocked by hawkers and fruit sellers.
He said that after returning, he noticed that two of his car’s tires had been deflated. When he tried to move the car, the Taliban traffic police tried to deflate the other tires.
The doctor says that despite the car being running and his family members, including his children, being inside, he was beaten by traffic police. According to him, the severity of the beating was so severe that one of his children fainted from fear and screaming.
He added that after the incident, he went to the traffic management officer to file a complaint, but instead of dealing with it, he was met with harsh treatment and threats of further beatings.
In part of his speech, the doctor said: “We studied and served the people for 30 years, but today even the security and dignity of a doctor is not maintained.”
So far, Taliban officials in Herat have not officially responded to these claims.
