New report on the continued deaths of prisoners under torture in Taliban detention centers

In its latest report, the Tolerance Organization has announced that torture, ill-treatment and widespread violations of the rights of prisoners in the detention centers of the Taliban continue, and this process has claimed the lives of dozens of people so far.

According to the report, at least 20 cases of deaths of prisoners under torture have been documented, most of which occurred in the observation houses and detention centers of the Taliban intelligence.

The report adds that the victims mainly included former soldiers, former government employees and people accused by the Taliban of collaborating with the opposition.

In the cases recorded from the provinces of Helmand and Ghazni, the families of the victims said that severe signs of torture and beatings were visible on the bodies and they did not accept the Taliban's version of the cause of death.

The Tolerance Organization has also warned that the recorded cases are only a part of the reality, because the atmosphere of fear, threats and security pressures have caused many families to refrain from following up on the case and making it public.

The human rights organization added that based on the information and testimonies collected, most of the victims were from non-Pashtun ethnic groups, and it is likely that ethnic and linguistic prejudices also played a role in the treatment of the detainees.
