Asim Munir's visit to Tehran; speculations about Pakistan's role in regional developments and Iran-US talks

According to published reports, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Staff of Pakistan, arrived in Tehran today on an official visit. It is said that this visit was made within the framework of regional talks and coincides with developments related to the talks between the United States and Iran.

After arriving in Tehran, Asim Munir was officially welcomed at the airport by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. Published images show that the meeting was held at an official and diplomatic level.

Reports indicate that the possible themes of this visit included reviewing the security situation in the region, tensions between Iran and the United States, border cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, as well as issues related to Afghanistan.

The two sides are also said to have discussed security cooperation, the fight against terrorism, smuggling and intelligence coordination in border areas.

The visit comes at a time when the region is facing sensitive political and security developments, and Iran and Pakistan have tried to expand their security and economic cooperation in recent years.

Some unofficial reports have also suggested that Pakistan may play a facilitating or indirect mediator role in the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington; although no official details about the content of the talks have been released yet.
