Residents of Pul-e-Khashak, Dasht-e-Barchi say Taliban forces have destroyed residential and commercial properties during a road construction project without the owners’ consent and without compensation.

A number of residents of the Pul-e-Khashak area in Dasht-e-Barchi, Kabul say Taliban forces have destroyed their homes and shops during the construction of a road without their consent or compensation.

According to local residents, the demolition operations have been carried out in recent days and Taliban agents have destroyed parts of residential and commercial properties along the road construction project route without providing legal documents or an official order.

Residents say that no transparent and official process has been carried out to assess financial damages and no compensation has been paid to the affected families so far. They insist that their protests and requests to stop the demolition or assess damages have gone unanswered.

“They destroyed people’s houses and shops without showing any documents or providing any compensation,” a local resident told Kabul Times News. “Many families are now facing serious problems.”

According to residents, some families have been forced to leave the area after their houses were demolished, and a number of businessmen have also lost their source of income.

Meanwhile, social and legal activists say that the implementation of development projects without the consent of the owners and without compensation has raised serious concerns about civil rights and private property. They have called for transparency in the process of implementing the projects and addressing people’s complaints.

The Taliban have not yet officially responded to the allegations and how possible compensation will be provided.
