GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The Gothenburg District Court in Sweden has sentenced an Afghan citizen to four years in prison for rape, illegal confinement and severe violence. The court has also ordered his permanent deportation from Sweden after serving his sentence.
According to a report by the Swedish media outlet Göteborgs-Posten, the incident occurred after the victim — a biological man who identified himself as a woman — was assaulted and raped in the 26-year-old man’s apartment.
According to documents presented in court, the defendant threatened to kill the victim before she tried to escape, saying, “I will kill you.” Reports indicate that the victim, after enduring severe violence, tried to escape from a second-story window to save her life; but as a result, she fell and suffered severe and fatal injuries.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the defendant had dragged the victim back into the apartment after her first attempt to escape and held her there illegally for a period of time.
After reviewing the evidence, witness statements and medical reports, the Gothenburg court found the defendant guilty on several counts and, in addition to the prison sentence, ordered his indefinite deportation from Sweden.
The case has once again brought the issue of sexual violence and social security in Sweden to the media and public debate. Swedish authorities have not yet released full details of the identities of the individuals involved in the case.
