Suspicious Death of Young Woman in Takhar;
Cause of Death Uncertainty, Fears Over Release of Suspect

Takhar, Afghanistan — Days after the suspicious death of a young woman in Takhar province, her family continues to demand a transparent and comprehensive investigation to clarify the exact cause of the incident.

According to family members, the woman was initially taken to a hospital in Dasht-e-Qala district due to suspected poisoning. As her health deteriorated, she was transferred to Taloqan Central Hospital, but died before reaching her destination.

The victim’s brother says that while preparing the body for burial, clear signs of violence were seen on her body. According to him, bruises and injuries were seen on parts of the body, including the thigh and waist, which do not match the initial account of poisoning.

The family said that they have reported the matter to local authorities. According to them, the body was examined by doctors, but the official cause of death has not been announced yet and the investigation in this regard has not been concluded.

The victim’s relatives have also announced that they have filed an official complaint and have demanded that the body be transferred to forensic centers in Takhar or Kabul for more detailed examinations.

According to the family, the main suspect in the case was detained for a while, but was later released; an issue that has increased concerns about the way the case is being handled.

According to her relatives, the woman was forcibly married to a man from Khaja Ghar district at the age of about 15 and was the mother of three children. Her family reports that there have been tensions and conflicts in the family in previous years.

The incident occurred while concerns about gender-based violence and limited access to justice for women in Afghanistan continue.

As of the publication of this report, Afghan officials have not commented on the matter.
