15-year-old bride killed in Daikundi; husband absconding

A 15-year-old girl named Muhaddesa has died after a violent domestic violence incident in Daikundi province, highlighting once again concerns about the rise in violence against women in Afghanistan.

According to local sources, the incident took place on Sunday, April 26, in Nili city, the capital of Daikundi province. Muhaddesa, who had been married for only eight months, was severely beaten by her husband and died as a result of her injuries, according to sources.

The teenager’s body was taken to Daikundi Central Hospital for forensic examination and the supervision of the Criminal Investigation Department. Sources close to the victim’s family say that she had faced violence and abuse from her husband many times during their marriage.

Muhaddesa’s body was buried that evening, while the motive for the murder is still unclear.

Reports also indicate that the girl’s husband fled the scene after committing the act and has not been arrested yet. As of the time of publication of this report, local authorities in Daikundi have not provided an official response in this regard.

Meanwhile, human rights organizations and women’s rights activists have expressed concern about the increase in cases of violence and murder of women in Afghanistan. They emphasize that the existing restrictions on women, along with the lack of effective access to justice and legal protections, are the main factors that exacerbate such incidents.

Experts believe that the continuation of this situation could have serious social and humanitarian consequences and require urgent attention from responsible institutions and society.
