The Afghan Women’s Spontaneous Protest Movement issued a strongly worded statement condemning the dire situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
The statement said: “Afghan refugees, especially women and girls, are facing forced deportations, uncertainty and a severe lack of humanitarian services. This crisis is unfolding and silence is a betrayal of humanity.”
Key demands:
• Immediate resumption of asylum procedures and case processing by UNHCR and UNICEF
• Acceleration of resettlement to safe countries
• Complete cessation of forced deportations by Pakistan
• Provision of urgent humanitarian assistance (health, food, psychological and educational)
The protesters called on the international community and the UN to act without delay and prevent forced returns to Afghanistan under the Taliban.
The statement was issued from multiple cities in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Europe and emphasized: “If action is not taken today, tomorrow will be too late.”
