Details of the latest situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Iran-US talks
Commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz has come under attack for the first time since the ceasefire between the US and Iran, after the Iranian military rejected the US government’s statements that the strategic waterway had been reopened.

The Wall Street Journal quoted Iran’s foreign minister as saying on Friday that the Strait of Hormuz was open following the start of a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, a statement that was quickly echoed by President Trump.

This morning, the Iranian military said that the Strait of Hormuz remained under “strict management and control of the armed forces” and would remain so until the US lifted its blockade of Iranian ports. But few ships had passed through the strait before the announcement.

Trump downplayed any significant differences between the US and Iran in reaching a deal to end the war.
