UN-Habitat: Around 14,000 People in Afghanistan Affected by Flash Floods Since Early 2026
Kabul – The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has announced that approximately 14,000 people in Afghanistan have been affected by flash floods since the beginning of 2026 (January).
In a statement issued on Monday, April 13 (24 Hamal), the agency warned that the recurrence of such floods highlights the urgent need to build and develop climate-resilient infrastructure across the country.
UN-Habitat also reported the construction of a protective wall in Gardez, the capital of Paktia province, stating that the structure successfully prevented damage from the recent floods in the area.
Heavy rainfall in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few weeks has triggered widespread flooding, causing significant human casualties as well as substantial financial losses.
Meteorological and environmental experts predict that some provinces in Afghanistan may face further heavy rainfall and a heightened risk of new floods in the coming days.
