Pakistan Reports Airstrikes on Several Locations in Khost and Kandahar
Report:
Pakistan's Ministry of Information and military spokesperson announced that, in the early hours of Thursday, Pakistani forces conducted multiple airstrikes and drone strikes inside Afghanistan in response to drone attacks originating from Afghan territory.
According to Pakistan, a total of ten locations in Afghanistan were targeted; Islamabad claims these areas were used to launch or store the drones employed against Pakistan.
In Khost, local sources reported attacks on parts of the Gurbuz, Ismail Khel, and Mandozai districts, as well as areas near the provincial capital. The spokesperson for the Taliban governor of Khost stated that the attacks occurred around 3:30 AM and resulted in no casualties.
In Kandahar, local sources reported that an area within the city's 9th District was targeted. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated that the strike hit a vacant lot and caused no casualties.
Regarding Pakistan's claims about targeting "terrorist hideouts and positions"—as well as a location known as "Mullah Sahib Saray"—details and allegations concerning the presence of Taliban special forces at that site have not been independently verified.
These strikes come amidst rising military tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban following recent drone attacks and border skirmishes. Pakistan asserts that drones from Afghan territory have entered its airspace; the Taliban has denied these allegations.
