From Taliban’s immediate fatwas against Americans to calls for expanding economic ties with the US
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, told the Financial Times that Afghanistan “fully” welcomes US investment in mining and infrastructure and wants to expand economic ties with Washington.
Muttaqi claimed that Afghanistan’s mineral reserves are estimated to be worth at least $1 trillion. He expressed hope that expanding economic cooperation with the US could help ease sanctions and free up Afghanistan’s frozen assets.
Muttaqi’s comments come as the Taliban continues to face widespread international restrictions and economic challenges and is trying to expand its economic ties with various countries, including the US.
