Taliban shut down Lapis Media Center in Kabul

Kabul Times News: The Lapis Media Center, affiliated with Moby Group, has been closed by Taliban intelligence in Kabul.

According to a report by Voice of Hindu Kush, a media outlet affiliated with Taliban intelligence, the center was closed due to what it called “incompatibility of the published content with Taliban policies.”

The media outlet claimed that the Lapis Center was publishing songs by artists, excerpts from films, concerts, and Western-style visual content.

The closure of Lapis comes at a time when pressure on media outlets and media institutions in Afghanistan has increased in the past five years. According to published information, the offices of about 70 media outlets, radio stations, television stations, and news agencies have been attacked, inspected, or closed during this period.

In the most recent case, reports indicate that Taliban intelligence has closed a social institution in Kabul and arrested a number of its employees.

The continuation of these actions has increased concerns about restrictions on the activities of the media, civil society organizations, and freedom of expression in Afghanistan.
