35 Afghans arrested in Bulgaria; North Macedonian driver also detained

Bulgarian border police have arrested 35 undocumented migrants inside a passenger car in the Malko Tarnovo region.

According to the Bulgarian state news agency, all those arrested are Afghan citizens. The 22-year-old driver of the car, a resident of North Macedonia, has also been detained by police.

The Bulgarian Interior Ministry said the incident took place on August 18, and in recent months, operations to combat illegal immigration have increased in the country.

According to Bulgarian police, undocumented migrants will be held in special centers for up to seven days under new regulations and then transferred to reception centers for migrants.
