Massive fire breaks out in Khanabad district of Kunduz province; heavy losses inflicted on local residents

Local sources in Kunduz province say that a massive fire broke out today, Saturday, May 16, in Khanabad district of the province, as a result of which dozens of shops and residential houses were damaged and huge financial losses were inflicted on the people.

According to local residents, the fire started around noon in one of the local markets and quickly spread to other parts due to strong winds and lack of sufficient facilities to control the fire. Eyewitnesses say that people tried to extinguish the flames with basic facilities, but the spread of the fire caused a large part of the commercial property and people's assets to be destroyed.

Sources add that the exact number of casualties has not been released yet, but the financial losses of this incident have been described as heavy. Some reports indicate that several people also suffered superficial injuries during the fire control.

Local officials have not yet made an official statement on the cause of the fire, but investigations have begun.

Residents of Khanabad district have called on the responsible institutions and relief organizations to take serious measures to help the affected families and compensate for the damages.
