Five members of a family killed in Sheberghan; local sources report possible role of a Taliban member
Local sources in Jawzjan province say that five members of a family, including women and children, were killed and two other children were injured in a bloody attack in Sheberghan city.
According to the sources, the incident occurred at midnight on Thursday in the Bandar Sar-e-Pul area of Sheberghan city when unknown gunmen entered a residential house and opened fire on the family members.
The sources added that a 45-year-old woman, three girls aged 21, 13 and seven months, and a seven-year-old child were killed in the attack. Two other young boys of the family were also injured and their health conditions are reported to be critical.
Some local sources claim that earlier, a Taliban member had wanted to marry the eldest daughter of the family, but after the family opposed it, tensions between the two sides increased. According to these sources, the attack is likely to have been the result of the same dispute, although this claim has not been officially confirmed yet.
Despite the fact that several hours have passed since the incident, local Taliban officials have not yet released details about the main motive for the attack, the identity of the perpetrators, and the investigation process.
Local residents say that the increase in targeted killings and violent incidents in the northern provinces of Afghanistan has raised serious concerns among the people. They have called on Taliban officials to identify the perpetrators of this incident and bring them to justice.
