Bribery and corruption in Taliban-controlled institutions; citizens complain about lack of accountability.

A number of residents of the country expressed concern about the increase in corruption and bribery in government agencies under Taliban control, saying that illegal money is being received widely and openly in some institutions.

According to citizens, in many departments it is not possible to carry out administrative work without paying money, and some employees affiliated with the Taliban demand money from clients informally in exchange for providing services.

A Kabul resident, who did not want to be named, told Kabul Times News:

“Nothing gets done in the traffic department without paying money. People are charged money even to get simple documents, and no one is held accountable.”

Another resident claimed that in the revenue and customs departments, receiving illegal money has become a normal process and some individuals have acquired significant assets in a short period of time.

These citizens warn that the continuation of such a situation has increased people's distrust of government agencies and has increased concerns about the spread of administrative corruption across the country.
